Job Title:  School Nurse

 

 

Reports to:                Superintendent of Schools or His/Her Designee

Department:              Health Services

Number of Days:        180 day contract

Compensation:           Teacher's Salary Schedule

 

Position Summary:         Works with students and school community by overseeing, supporting, and managing health needs such as medication administration, first aid, immunization compliance, health education, and health plan development and implementation.  The school nurse will assist the school district in developing policies and procedures that provide and promote optimum health care practices for a healthy school environment conducive to learning.

 

Qualifications/Job Requirements:

                Education:

·         Oklahoma Licensed Registered Nurse with Oklahoma School Nurse Certification

Experience:

·         Three or more years’ experience of nursing experience in a clinical or school setting preferred, but not required

·         First Aid/CPR/AED Certification

 

The Board of Education and Superintendent may approve alternatives to some of the listed qualifications.

 

 

Essential Job Functions:

·         Develops, initiates, and coordinates health care plans to meet students’ heath needs and train appropriate staff           members to implement these plans at the sites.

·         Promotes and maintains a safe and healthy school environment for students, staff, and families

·         Implement and oversee health screenings and referrals

·         Provides health training to designated staff including medication administration that complies with current state and school law.

·         Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases through immunization programs, early intervention, surveillance, reporting, and follow-up of contagious diseases.

·         Participates in IEP and 504 development as needed.

·         Provides first aid and emergency care to students and staff, notifying parents, legal guardian or person responsible for student’s care, as indicated.

·         Take an active role in developing health related curriculum and instruction of students, as well as State mandated health education.

·         Demonstrate knowledge of available community services by making referrals as appropriate.

·         Keep accurate and up-to-date list of children with special health needs.

·         Make home visits as needed.

·         Provide an environment conducive to privacy, confidentiality, and efficiency.

·         Conduct In-service Programs for school personnel.
